Trier leads No. 12 Arizona to 90-60 win over Bradley

Arizona will try to extend the nation’s longest home-winning streak to 40 games when the No. 10 Wildcats host Bradley on Monday night. Coming off a rough opening outing, freshman Allonzo Trier led Arizona with 22 points. “He’s very effective on the offensive end”.

Trier’s 14-for-14 mark from the free-throw line put him in a tie for second place on UA’s all-time free throw percentage list, behind Jerryd Bayless’ school-record 16-for-16 mark against Stanford in 2007-08.

Arizona also had plenty of balanced scoring behind Trier, particularly after it shook off a 1-for-9 three-point shooting performance in the first half. However, Arizona made just 1-9 attempts from behind the arc.

This game will be the first meeting for Arizona and Bradley in recent seasons.

Arizona would hold onto a double-digit margin the rest of the night.

With five minutes remaining in the first half, Arizona led 30-24.

A 12-2 run midway through the second half cushioned the Wildcats’ lead and by the 10-minute mark, the margin had grown to 64-44.

Guard Gabe York broke out of a shooting slump to hit three-pointers on consecutive possessions, giving UA a 70-50 lead with 8:31 left.

“The final margin was really a tale of two games”, Miller said.

Although the score depicts a decisive blowout, it wasn’t until early in the second half that Arizona flipped the switch offensively.

Besides, if the Wildcats can manage to play more cleanly within those rules, they just might help. Bradley doesn’t have the talent of the Wildcats, but the Braves have an enthusiastic first-year coach in Brian Wardle, who four years ago was the youngest head coach in Division I after he took over the Wisconsin-Green Bay program at age 31.

Miller went with the same starting lineup he did in UA’s opener on Friday, with Kadeem Allen at point guard, York at shooting guard, Mark Tollefsen at small forward, Anderson at power forward and Kaleb Tarczewski at center.

On his 25th birthday, Brock Osweiler will make his first NFL start, replacing an injured Peyton Manning in the Broncos’ much-anticipated game against the Chicago Bears.
