He only shielded one and the second one he chose to let go over his head, which was a bad decision because it took a bad bounce and rather than pick it up he let it roll, [which] pinned the 49ers deep in their own territory.

Such is the fever surrounding Jarryd Hayne’s presence in the National Football League pre-season, that it’s now starting to reach a fever pitch.

“I’ve seen what I need to see”, Tomsula told reporters yesterday.

Kubiak gave a strong hint at his solution, saying, “Emmanuel’s very capable and could be a great, great punt returner”, he said. In addition to his pass rushing skills, which were apparent again in this game, Barrett proved he can make an impact on 15 special teams snaps where he had a tackle in coverage. “There’s been an awesome analysis on him”.

After all, there is still another round of roster cuts, and it is entirely possible the 49ers either change their mind on this, or have not in fact decided on this.

And although Shane Ray and Shaquil Barrett still mounted pressure, the Broncos were caught out of position and Kaepernick took off, sprinting twice for 53 yards to move the 49ers into field-goal range.

Few Americans likely knew his name before Hayne made a splash on the NFL scene this preseason, but those familiar with rugby league and particularly Australia’s NRL were hardly strangers to his athletic prowess.

While the defense and the rushing attack were solid, quarterback Peyton Manning struggled in the first half.

It is not known whether Kilgore will open the season on the physically unable to perform list and miss a mandatory six games or if the 49ers will keep him on the 53-man roster with the hope that he can return early in the season. After Carlos Hyde, Reggie Bush, Kendall Hunter, Bruce Ellington and Mike Davis were all given a run and with 3:22 left in the third quarter, the 49ers tossed Hayne on for a punt return. “Yeah we’re in the midst of that now with the employees, and I simply walked out of that assembly”, Tomsula stated.

Safety points plagued the 49ers in Saturday’s loss.

Yet Tomsula told reporters this week that he wants to watch Hayne one more time against the Chargers to see what kind of progress he’s made in other areas of his game, presumably pass blocking and route running.

Outdoors linebacker Ahmad Brooks stays excused from staff actions, and his standing is “each day”, Tomsula stated. “I’ve been doing that for a long time. I feel there have been ups and downs”. “Talking to (vice president of football operations Jeff) Ferguson, everything is really good“.

Maybe Hayne’s success with the 49ers will inspire athletes all around the world to try exciting new challenges. “I am excited for (Bowman)”. He played tremendous, so much so that Tomsula allowed him to play throughout the first half. Kaepernick didn’t play in final yr’s remaining preseason recreation.

Tomsula wouldn’t use fatigue or altitude as an excuse for the sloppiness of the game.

– Cleaning up penalties will continue to be a focus for the 49ers going forward. “We have now to wash it up. He hasn’t up to now”, Tomsula said.
