He said the armed forces were concerned about the safety of the captives as well as their freedom.

Pentagon spokeswoman Lt. Col. Michelle Baldanza said the forces were deploying at the invitation of the government of Cameroon, and would coordinate their actions with the Cameroonian military.

Cameroon has become a target for Boko Haram militants since backing the Nigerian military in its fight against the group.

The previous record for a Democratic presidential debate was set in 2008 at 10.7 million viewers. U.S. President Barack Obama announced the deployment Wednesday and gave no timeline for the troops’ withdrawal. “They are armed, but they are armed for the purposes of force protection”.

This is amid a heightened offensive launched against terror-sect Boko Haram by the Federal Government in recent times.

Gabriel Olonisakin, on Thursday reassured Nigerians on the safe release of all those held captive by Boko Haram insurgents in the North-East.

Earlier this year, PressTV revealed that the Central Intelligence Agency created and funded Boko Haram, described as a Takfiri group. The Fulani herdsmen realised she was a Chibok girl and helped her to the Baga military base of the multi-national Joint Task Force, according to Saturday Vanguard.

An advance force of about 90 personnel is already on site in Cameroon.

Although Boko Haram militants were once largely confined to Nigeria, they have in the past year gained momentum and increased their cross-border raids into Cameroon, Chad, and Niger.

The troops are not expected to take part in actual combat operations. The group, which made worldwide headlines when it kidnapped hundreds of girls taking school exams previous year, has increasingly turned toward the tactic of using female bombers, as they arouse less suspicion from security forces. This was specifically focused on trying to figure out where the group was holding the girls, but also on other aspects of the Boko Haram organization, specifically looking at the size of the organization and where they maintained an operational presence.
