A “tragic accident” led to the death of an 8-month-old boy who was left in a auto outside an Ohio Wal-Mart, officials said.

The child’s grandmother, unaware the boy was in the third-row seating of the SUV, drove to work at Walmart at about 11 a.m. and started her shift, according to officers.

The vehicle was then driven home to Garfield Heights and the baby was left inside.

Officers were called to the Walmart parking lot on Macedonia Commons Boulevard just after 5:30 p.m. She parked the auto, inadvertently leaving the boy in the back seat, the station reported. That’s when the child’s grandmother went to check the vehicle and found the baby dead inside.

Police do not suspect foul play and said an autopsy will be performed on Thursday. The identity of the baby will be released once all family members are notified.

The vehicle has since been towed from the parking lot and police have cleared the scene of caution tape.

“The poor baby couldn’t help itself, and you would’ve thought somebody would’ve seen the baby walking by the vehicle, see a baby in the auto seat and reported it”, said Pat Haralson, who was shopping at Walmart Wednesday.

No charges have been filed, but police say it is still early in the investigation.
