Scientists from Harvard made the first autonomous robot octopus
An octobot is a new robot, inspired by the shape of octopus. Harvard researchers believe that this new invention will open the new possibilities in the robotic science.
They made a completely new bot. Its main difference in a soft shape. Its legs can move like legs of a real octopus.
Researchers have made it using 3D printers.
The representatives of Harvard School of Engineering say that this bot is autonomous. It feeds from the hydrogen peroxide and platinum, as the main catalyst. Their mix creates gas that travels to the bot’s system.
The professor of engineering, Robert Wood says that they were thrilled to create this robot. It was the dream of every engineer that worked in the past or works now in the soft robotics field.
Before them, scientists could not create completely soft robot. According to the professor, the main problem was in the batteries. They could not put them together with the soft system of robots.
The new research shows on practice that with the new technologies they can switch all main components with the soft one, and produce something completely unrealistic.
He believes that with this octobot the researches will be continued and in the nearest future, it will be possible to produce more compound bots.
The new video that was released by the University shows bot that does not do many things. Still, it can move its legs. Their next goal is to make it crawl.
Harvard scientists believe that it is the beginning of the new robotic era where robots will be able to control themselves.
