HBO Announces Online Partnership with Cablevision for HBO NOW
Home Box Office Inc. announced that they’ve partnered with Cablevision (NYSE:CVC) to offer HBO Now. The company’s first Internet service provider partnership, the service will now be available to current Optimum Online customers.
HBO NOW will open up HBO programming to viewers without the need to have a cable television subscription.
The service, which will open in April, is only available to United States consumers. The company planned the service’s release to coincide with the new season of Game of Thrones, the company’s biggest television series.
Last year, the CEO of HBO, Richard Plepler, stated that there are still 80 million households in the country that do not have HBO. The company is attempting to cater to cord cutters that have left their regular cable television subscription plans and stream content through Netflix (NFLX) or similar services.
Apple TV has partnered with HBO to offer HBO NOW before any other company. Announced earlier this month, the partnership allows Apple users to enjoy HBO content for $14.99 per month.
Cablevision and HBO have not announced their pricing plan for the subscription service, but it’s expected to be the same price offered through Apple TV. Subscribers will gain access to all current and past programming with HBO NOW.
